Financial Manager, Accounting Manager
Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Director of Accounting who is a hands‑on, strategic leader responsible for directing all aspects of the company's accounting operations. This role ensures compliant, audit‑ready financial reporting for a defense‑focused contractor, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), complex billing (AR), and indirect rate structures. The position will lead the billing and project setup team as well as play a major role in the monthly accounting close process.
ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting & Month‑End Close
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting (GAAP).
- Oversee General Ledger reporting with a focus on review of direct project financials.
- Interface with all accounting teams and FP&A teams to ensure proper oversight and review is taking place on a monthly basis.
Revenue Recognition & AR Billing
- Ensure proper revenue recognition in compliance with ASC 606, particularly regarding contract modifications and long‑term contracts.
- Oversee AR/Billing functions, ensuring invoices for T&M, cost‑type, and fixed‑price contracts are accurate and timely.
- Ensure the billing team is interfacing with operations to work collections on past‑due invoices.
- Oversee project setup team to ensure that contracts are being set up properly to allow for proper cost collection, invoice formatting, and revenue recognition.
- Reconcile unbilled AR and deferred revenue.
DCAA Compliance & Government Contracting
- Develop and manage provisional billing rates and final indirect rate structures (Fringe, G&A, Overhead).
- Maintain a DCAA‑compliant accounting system (e.g., Deltek Costpoint) with proper segregation of direct, indirect, and unallowable costs.
- Participate in the preparation of the annual Incurred Cost Proposal (ICP) and ensure compliance with FAR Part 31 cost principles.
Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Mentor, train, and develop the Accounts Receivable team to build a high‑performance, compliant culture.
- Support the annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Drive continuous improvement in accounting systems and automation.
- Interface with FP&A/project control team to provide as needed support for forecasting and project financial review.
- Education: BS in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role within a DCAA‑compliant government contracting environment.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of FAR/CAS regulations, Allowability, Allocability, and Reasonableness of costs.
- System
Experience:
Proficiency in Deltek Costpoint. - Skills: Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, modeling, reconciliations).
- Expertise in Incurred Cost Electronic (ICE) Model preparation.
- Experience leading successful Financial and DCAA/DCMA business system audits.
- Ability to communicate technical accounting concepts to non‑finance stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of ASC 606.
- Experience in billing or leading billing team.
- This is a hybrid position requiring work onsite at our headquarters in Reston, VA Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.
