HRIS Project Specialist

Location:

Herndon, VA

Responsibilities
  • HRIS maintenance and improvement projects (50%)
    • Maintain optimally functioning HR systems, including installation, administration, customization, development, maintenance, and upgrades to applications, systems, and modules.
    • Proactively identify and propose HRIS and HRMS improvements and implement upgrades based on organizational needs.
    • Partner with HR, IM/IT, and Data Privacy offices to develop and integrate workflows and automation features.
    • Ensure HRIS system compliance with federal and state regulations, data security and privacy requirements.
    • Serve as a strategic partner and subject‑matter expert representing interests with HRIS suppliers, vendors, and service providers.
  • Project and account management (30%)
    • Member of implementation teams for Workday Compensation, Benefits, Absence Management, Time Management, Payroll, and Service Now across North America.
    • Communicate with internal customers to understand their needs, design compelling solutions, meet project deadlines, and prioritize projects.
    • Resolve complaints and prevent additional issues by addressing process improvements.
    • Work with Centers of Excellence to translate business needs into projects, including prioritization, scheduling, and resource planning.
    • Support HRIS system implementation, including security administration, management of cross‑functional dependencies between stakeholders, and system optimization post go‑live.
  • Support and collaboration (20%)
    • Create HR documentation for reporting and other HR processes.
    • Collaborate with HR/HRIS team members to ensure system usage consistency across countries.
    • Support employees and field questions, providing the appropriate guidance or direction.
    • Support HR Business Partners by fielding questions about the HR tools.
    • Manage permissions, access, personalization, and similar system operations and settings for system users.
    • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and guidance to users of all HR systems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Human Resources Management, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting HRIS and implementations in HCM and payroll systems such as Workday and/or Dayforce.
  • Experience with Workday HCM Suite and/or Dayforce is highly preferred.
  • 2+ years in a customer service, administrative, or human resources support role.
  • Strong HR functional and technical knowledge, with experience supporting various HCM‐related modules.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, prioritization, problem‑solving, communication, project management, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to stay current with innovation and trends in HRIS administration.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Self‑motivated with excellent listening skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation, able to remain focused in emotionally charged circumstances.
  • Technical proficiency:
    Workday HCM, Time and Payroll;
    Dayforce and Business Solver; familiarity with scripts, Visual Basic, and basic coding (HTML).
  • Travel: 5% domestic and international.
