Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure continual access to the cloud. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and are seeking talented people to help.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. You'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Key

responsibilities
  • Develop and establish strategy of new fiber optic and passive infrastructure designs, driving vendor roadmaps, creating fiber testing standards, and deploying scalable implementation mechanisms and processes for network-wide deployment
  • Design scalable test infrastructure and qualification procedures to automate fiber optic validation and qualification
  • Design structured cabling systems (fiber, copper, cable trays/duct banks) for network layers at hyperscale data centers that improve deployment speed, reduce cost, and improve fungibility
  • Solve ambiguous problems in both existing and new network architecture and system development initiatives, propose strategies and deliver architecture that have significant business and customer impact
  • Drive discussions with customers and peers, influence partner and dependent organizations as a key influencer of team strategy
  • Manage fiber vendors and contractors by establishing data-driven processes for quality control and commissioning of fiber bundles and structured cabling systems
  • Monitor fiber optic quality in the fleet and build data-driven mechanisms to identify and remediate large-scale events and improve overall health of the fiber plant
  • Perform deep dives through on-site visits, data analysis, and discussions with design and operations teams to drive continuous improvement of physical network standards
  • A day in the life: understand the growing AWS network and our internal customers' requirements on interconnect solutions, devise hardware solutions, and develop software tools with partner teams to maintain a highly available network
  • Bridge design, construction, and operations to ensure every layer of physical networking—from fiber trunks to copper patching—meets high standards of performance, reliability, and scalability
