Position: Infrastructure Decommission Technician, Network and Cable Decomm (NCD)

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. This role will be part of a diverse team of engineers, specialists, and support staff to help deliver safety, security, capacity, and cost‑effective solutions for AWS customers.

Responsibilities
  • Physical decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a data center environment.
  • Manage assigned work and priorities through a ticketing system and/or workflows.
  • Provide status updates to stakeholders via the ticketing system.
  • Effectively coordinate and deliver multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Exhibit quality workmanship and maintain data‑center cleanliness.
  • Leverage logical tools and systems provided by the organization.
  • Follow all production, safety, and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to remove obstacles.
  • Read and comprehend data‑center build documentation and site‑specific layout material.
  • Travel within geographical work area is required; up to 25% travel outside the traditional work area may be required depending on your primary region.
  • Scope effort assigned, validate all work is ready for decommissioning, create change requests to perform work, and execute effort in a timely manner.
  • Document all efforts via the ticketing system.
  • Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes with an eye toward continuous improvement.
Basic Qualifications
  • 1+ year of computer networking experience.
  • 1+ year of Linux operating systems experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in computer networking and Linux operating systems.
  • Ability to lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds.
  • Experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair.
  • 2+ years of knowledge of network and cabling, optic types, and test equipment.
  • 2+ years of experience with network and cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.
  • 2+ years of experience coordinating workload and priorities through a ticketing system or system‑driven workflow.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work in cramped spaces or elevated locations while adhering to health and safety guidelines.
  • Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
  • Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system.
  • Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.
  • Experience working in a data center environment (racking, stacking gear, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment).
  • 2+ years of experience with data networking in a data‑center environment.
  • 2+ years of experience with installation and removal of equipment from data‑center racks or cabinets.
  • 5+ years of experience with cabling in a data‑center environment, including cable management and installation/removal in a production environment.
  • 2+ years of experience troubleshooting cabling infrastructure connectivity issues, including patch panels, FDP, and ODF.
  • 2+ years of experience in a lead technician role.
