Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast‑paced technology company and a leader in the world of Cloud Computing. We are currently expanding our decommissioning team and are looking for a proven network and cable decommissioning technician with robust technical understanding of network and infrastructure. The Network & Cable Decommissioning team (NCD) is looking to hire a highly motivated, self‑driven decommissioning technician who will work closely with project managers, network engineers, and operations teams to recover rack space, power, remove cabling infrastructure, and sanitize legacy network equipment.
Responsibilities- Physical decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a data center environment
- Manage assigned work and priorities through a ticketing system and/or workflows
- Provide status updates to stakeholders via the ticketing system
- Effectively coordinate and deliver multiple tasks concurrently
- Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain data center cleanliness and safety
- Effectively leverage the logical tools and systems that are provided
- Follow all production, safety, and quality standards, codes and industry best practices
- Collaborate with stakeholders to remove obstacles
- Read and comprehend datacenter build documentation and site‑specific layout material
- Scope effort assigned, validate all work is ready for decommissioning, create change requests, and execute the effort in a timely manner
- Document all efforts via the ticketing system
- Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement
- Travel within the geographical work area is required; up to 25% travel outside the traditional work area may be required depending on your primary region
- 1+ year of computer networking experience
- 1+ year of Linux operating systems experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair
- Can lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds
- 2+ years of knowledge of network and cabling, optic types, and test equipment
- 2+ years of experience with network and cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies
- 2+ years of experience coordinating workload and priorities through a ticketing system and/or system‑driven workflow
- Can work in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines
- Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure
- Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies
- Experience working in a data center environment (racking and stacking gear, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment)
- 2+ years of experience with data networking in a data center environment
- 2+ years of experience with installation and removal of equipment from data center racks/cabinets
- 5+ years of experience with cabling in a data center environment, including cable management and install/removal in a production environment
- 2+ years of experience troubleshooting cabling infrastructure connectivity issues, including patch panels/FDP/ODF
