Systems Engineer; Expert - Herndon VA

Overview

BAE Systems, a top-tier prime contractor to the U.S. Department of Defense, seeks a skilled Systems Engineer with Dev Ops expertise to support a key Government customer. The role involves managing the customer’s application infrastructure in a virtual environment (Nutanix, VMs) to optimize performance, scalability and automation.

• Manage and maintain the customer’s application servers, networks and development & test infrastructure
• Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot application hosting services
• Monitor system performance and audits to ensure data integrity and protection
• Collaborate with internal teams to identify technical requirements and implement solutions that meet business needs
• Provide technical support and guidance to end-users, resolving issues in a timely manner
• Implement best practices for automation, backup, disaster recovery, and system redundancy
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in cloud computing and IT systems administration

Bachelors

• Experience with infrastructure as code languages (e.g. Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
• Experience with Linux System Administration and containerization tools (e.g. Docker)
• Ability to use source Control tools (e.g. Git, Subversion)
• Experience in Cloud-based services (AWS, Azure)
• Understand and implement network architecture (e.g. VLAN, subnets)
• Experience in security review of applications and infrastructure
• Ability to analyze and solve networking issues
• Researches new technologies in object oriented programming
• Works well in an engineering team environment with teammates of varied skill levels
• Ability to mentor others

• Experience with infrastructure automation technologies like Cisco NSO
• Experience with SD-WAN technology and applications (e.g. Versa)
• Experience with build automation technologies like Maven, Jenkins
• Experience with building APIs and services using REST, SOAP
• Experience with scripting languages like Perl, Shell, Bash

Full-Time Salary Range: $149603 - $254317
