About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative System Administrator Journeyman to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard.
Responsibilities- Administer and maintain server systems to ensure reliable, secure, and performant operations across assigned environments.
- Perform routine system maintenance, configuration, patching, and troubleshooting per approved standards and operating procedures.
- Apply DISA STIGs and system hardening controls to maintain cybersecurity compliance and support accreditation requirements.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity using enterprise monitoring tools; identify and remediate issues proactively.
- Investigate and remediate incidents; escape complex problems to engineering or vendor support as required.
- Document system configurations, changes, maintenance activities, and evidence to support audits and continuity of operations.
- Support application deployments, backups/restores, and recovery procedures to sustain operational readiness.
- Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and configuration baselines to support consistent administration and change control.
- 2 years with BS/BA; 0 years with MS/MA; 6 years with no degree
- Clearance:
Active TS/SCI clearance. - Candidate must meet ONE of the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field; OR
- Relevant DoD/military training (examples: F07DZ
Z1; M03385G; M10395B; M223854; A-531-0021; DISA (451) Training (Linux/Windows);
System Administrator (Intermediate) Playlist); OR - Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience (examples: CompTIA Cloud+; GICSP; GSEC; Security+; SSCP).
- Required experience and skills:
- Systems administration or server engineering experience supporting enterprise environments.
- Hands‑on experience with Windows and/or Linux server administration, patch management, configuration management, and backup/recovery processes.
- Practical application of STIG hardening, vulnerability remediation workflows, and RMF/ATO evidence practices.
- Proficiency with monitoring/observability tools, ticketing systems, and basic automation/scripting (Power Shell, Bash, Python).
- Strong documentation skills and ability to follow change control and configuration management processes.
- Desired:
- Prior DoD/ARNG system administration or classified environment experience.
- Experience with virtualization, cloud‑hosted server management, orchestration, and automated configuration tools (Ansible, Puppet, etc.).
Target Salary Range: $66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
