IT Infrastructure Engineer Job Description

Utilize a multifaceted skill base to design, implement, and maintain secure and non‑secure DoD networks, ensuring mission success for a demanding Department of Defense customer. Support on‑prem and cloud‑based infrastructure in collaboration with a motivated IT team.

• Assist with design, development, and implementation of a global secure communications network that interconnects critical DoD weapon systems.
• Maintain an AWS hybrid cloud virtualized network.
• Maintain Cisco ASA next‑generation firewalls.
• Integrate and utilize network monitoring tools such as Splunk.
• Assist users with AD/LDAP issues.
• Ensure strict security protocols provided by the IA team are followed.
• Assist with and document new policies and procedures to maintain business continuity.
• Troubleshoot layer 1‑4 networking issues.
• Maintain an on‑prem ESXi/VMware environment.
• Respond to rapid prototyping of special communication needs.
• Use BGP and EIGRP.
• Create multiple types of VPN tunnels.

• 10 years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering or systems engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and at least 2 years of directly related professional experience.
• Experience supporting enterprise network and server infrastructure in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals including routing, switching, NAT, VLANs, and firewall policies.
• Intermediate knowledge of administering Linux and/or Windows server environments.
• Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V, or similar).
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise firewalls and VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL VPN, Wire Guard, etc.).
• Experience deploying and maintaining infrastructure in AWS or other cloud platforms.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across network, OS, and application layers.
• Experience with infrastructure automation or scripting (Bash, Python, Power Shell, or similar).
• Experience working in secure or regulated environments (STIGs, NIST, RMF, or similar compliance frameworks).
• Strong documentation skills and ability to produce network diagrams and architecture documentation.
• Ability to support operational troubleshooting and participate in incident response.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• An active IAT III level certification.

• Experience designing or supporting site‑to‑site VPN architectures or hub‑and‑spoke networks.
• Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, Cloud Formation, Ansible).
• Experience with container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience operating hybrid cloud environments.
• Familiarity with observability and logging platforms (Splunk, ELK, Cloud Watch).
• Knowledgeable in DNS/NTP/SNMP.
• Microsoft Active Directory and Server OS competency.
• Familiarity with Rocky Linux 8.
• Experience implementing zero‑trust or segmented network architectures.
• Knowledge of PKI infrastructure and certificate lifecycle management.
• Experience supporting air‑gapped or highly secured networks.
• Familiarity with configuration management tools.
• Previous experience supporting DoD or federal environments.
• AWS Solutions Architect Associate.
• CISSP, Security+, or equivalent.
• Cisco CCNA/CCNP.
• VMware VCP.

An active Top Secret SCI security clearance is required for this position.
