AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The Core Networking team builds the network that allows data centers to function efficiently and is responsible for balancing efficiency, performance, and reliability to provide customers with uninterrupted access to their applications.
Key Responsibilities- Perform high‑quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best‑practice application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.
- Work closely with automation teams in defining tools that scale to higher volumes.
- Lead network projects in network sustaining engineering, deployment/implementation, scaling, technology refresh, and optimization.
- Maintain and support AWS’ next‑generation networks for major customers by diagnosing, mitigating impact, and resolving large‑scale networking events.
- Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configuration issues; including low‑level application interaction, Unix systems, and new‑age networking software tools.
- Partner with the broader Network/Infrastructure organization on network engineering, configuration standards, and tools.
- Ensure fast, smooth roll‑out of new designs and products, and assist with deployment and sustaining of networking software tools.
- Maintain standards across the networking toolset and ensure compliance with standards and policies.
- Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes.
- Create and review documentation and processes regarding network implementation, deployments, recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, and knowledge‑transfer material.
- Work in a 24x7 on‑call rotation, with the ability to drive into the workplace for critical events/needs.
- Manage customers during problem resolution and operate efficiently under pressure.
- Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
- Travel to data center/network sites and customer offices as needed.
- 4+ years of major internet routing protocol experience.
- 4+ years of experience working in a Linux/Unix environment.
- 1+ year of automation scripting experience using Python, Bash, Shell, or Perl.
- Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, server load balancing, and network security architecture and core technologies (TCP, OSPF/IS‑IS, BGP, MPLS, firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, LDAP, NFS).
- Experience with vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Brocade, Extreme, Citrix, F5, Fortinet, Palo Alto, etc.
- Strong scripting skills or a desire to learn Python, Perl, or Shell.

CompensationUSA, VA, Herndon – $–$ yearly. The package includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, and location.
