You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. Keyjob responsibilities
- Manage vendors and manufacturers to assess new fiber optic and passive infrastructure designs, establish fiber testing standards, and develop scalable implementation strategies for network-wide deployment.
- Automate fiber test plans and qualify fiber connectivity designs.
- Design and specify structured cabling systems (fiber, copper, cable trays/duct banks) for network layers at hyperscale data centers
- Develop standards, reference designs, and installation guidelines for physical network/cabling deployments and structured cabling systems
- Focus on ambiguous problem areas in existing or new network architecture and systems development initiatives, propose and deliver projects that have a significant business and/or customer impact
- Drive discussions with customers and peers, and being a key influencer in team strategy
- Partner with internal network engineering and site operations teams to align physical design with logical network architecture
- Manage fiber vendors and contractors; perform quality control and commissioning of fiber bundles and structured cabling systems
- Perform mitigation analysis and site inspections to validate as-built conditions, ensuring compliance with design and operational requirements
- Monitor module quality in the fleet and build mechanism to remediate large scale events and improve health of our links
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues during build, commissioning, and handover phases to ensure network readiness
- Maintain documentation, drawings, and asset records for physical network components across global sites
- Provide feedback to design and operations teams to drive continuous improvement of physical network standards
On an everyday basis as an engineer or scientist in our team, you have the unique opportunity to understand the growing AWS network and our internal customers' requirement on interconnect solutions, and work backwards to devise hardware solutions by influencing the broad industry and/or to develop software tools with partner teams to maintain a highly available network that delights AWS customers.
