Job Title
Facilities Assistant

Job SummaryFibertek, Inc. is a leading developer of laser and electro-optic systems for the aerospace community, with key contributions to lasers for atmospheric sensing, laser communications, and lidar sensors for NASA, DoD, and commercial customers. We are looking for a motivated Facilities Assistant to join our highly collaborative team in Herndon, Virginia. As the Facilities Assistant you will work closely with the Facilities Manager to assist with monitoring and maintaining the building and laboratory facilities.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCustodial
- Maintain engineering lab spaces. This includes electronics labs as well as Class 1K and 10K clean room spaces. Tasks include monitoring and replacing filters, lights, etc., as well as general cleaning.
- Maintain lab gowning materials and gowning room stocking (lab coats, gloves, etc.).
Facility
- Perform general handyman repairs and maintenance. This includes wall patching and basic carpentry.
- Assist Facilities Manager with HVAC equipment monitoring and maintenance.
- Assist Facilities Manager with building needs, external contractor monitoring, and tasks as assigned.
General
- Assist in developing facility processes and routine maintenance schedule.
- Engage with vendors for quoting and hiring.
- Maintain records and documentation for the facility.
- Occasional weekend and/or early morning hours.
- May at times be required to respond quickly to emergencies via phone, email, or in-person outside of normal working hours.
Experience and Expertise
Required:
- HS Diploma or GED
- US citizen
- Valid Driver's license.
- Able to lift 50 LB
- Able to climb a 10-foot ladder.
- Ability to use common hand tools, measuring devices, and handheld power tools.
- The ability to read, understand, and follow policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
- Reliable personal transportation or means of arriving at work at potentially odd hours
- Experience in engineering lab environment
- Experience with HVAC equipment
- Customer service background
- No significant travel requirements beyond use of company vehicle for local deliveries and pick‑ups. (< 25-miles)
