Overview
Fancy Cats Rescue Team is a 501(c)(3) non‑profit organization. The Fancy Cats Rescue Team is a passionate leader in the animal rescue community with over 25 years of experience. Founded in August 1997 by Cathy Awad, Fancy Cats now has Pet Smart Adoption Centers and partners with Mount Purrnon Cat Cafe & Wine Bar. We provide adoption, rescue and education services by finding suitable lifetime homes for our cats, rescuing cats on death row at local shelters and educating the public on responsible pet ownership.
We aspire to offer in‑house spay and neuter services. We live by our core values of integrity in all our dealings; compassion for all life; respect for our cats, our constituents and each other; and teamwork. We are responsive to our donors, adopters, volunteers and the public. Our volunteers and staff are recognized for their responsibility, dedication, knowledge and helpful service.
Opportunities
We provide these services for cats that would otherwise be euthanized, potential adopters, donors, local animal shelters and our community.
Foster Homes NeededWe need volunteers who can take Fancy Cats Rescue cats into their homes for a period of 30 days or longer. Typically, this period gives the cats a break from their time in a cage at the adoption center, often a much‑needed change of scene! New intakes of young kittens with or without their mother, ill cats or cats recuperating from surgery also need foster homes.
A cat can benefit from socializing with a family. The foster program helps FCRT learn more about an individual cat's habits and personality to better help find that perfect forever home. FCRT assumes costs for medically necessary vet visits and treatment, while the foster home provides food and litter. Foster homes are required to transport their foster cats to and from adoptions for showing, usually once or twice per month.
Adoption events are held all around the Northern Virginia area on Saturdays and Sundays. New foster homes will receive an introduction to fostering training and support from current homes for questions.
This is the perfect opportunity for someone who isn't sure if they are ready to own a pet and wants to gain experience before adopting. A home visit is required by State Law. Let us know any preferences on cats you'd like to foster and join a great team with lots of resources to help you take care of well‑deserving kitties in your home!
