The Regional Safety Engineer – DCPD is an experienced Health and Safety (H&S) Specialist, Engineer, or Manager who supports AWS Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD) programs. You will partner with DCPD teams such as Real Estate, Due Diligence, Permitting, Energy, Water, Pre‑Construction, Construction, Commissioning, Security, and Procurement to achieve health and safety goals and improve our safety culture. External partners include General Contractors and AWS Suppliers to clarify H&S expectations and continuously improve safety practices.

The role reports to H&S Program Specialists within the assigned region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deploy H&S programs covering leadership, planning, operational controls, continuous improvement, and performance management.
  • Review due diligence risk assessments and ensure adequate H&S implementation.
  • Coordinate with DCPD managers to prioritize H&S throughout all phases of DCPD projects.
  • Ensure and monitor General Contractors and AWS deployment vendors meet onboarding requirements in Avetta.
  • Conduct campus H&S kickoff sessions and review contractor and vendor Construction Safety Management Plans.
  • Document data and anecdotes in standard reporting tools (Weekly Business Reviews, Monthly Project Reviews) for DCPD and H&S leadership teams.
  • Manage 3rd‑party/internal H&S resources on DCPD projects through business reviews and project updates.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and partner with the Data Center Health and Safety (DCHS) Operational Team on regional issues.
  • Audit projects against the “process follow‑through” model, analyze leading and lagging indicators, and report findings at project and regional levels.
  • Conduct regular site visits with H&S 3rd‑party resources, construction managers, and Data Center Health and Safety Operational teams.
  • Host project‑specific contractor and internal team H&S kickoff sessions and annual performance review sessions.
A Day in the Life

This field‑based role requires regular on‑site presence at construction and retrofit projects in the greater Washington, DC area five days per week, with occasional travel to other domestic locations.

You will collaborate with a global network of H&S professionals and use data to drive risk management, serve as an escalation point, and manage site‑based H&S teams and consultants.

Data Center Planning and Delivery owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the continuous availability of servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment.

Our diverse team includes software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and more. We focus on delivering high safety and security standards while supporting large‑scale infrastructure growth.

Basic Qualifications
  • 6+ years of compliance, audit, or risk management experience.
  • 6+ years of health and safety experience in construction or industrial environments, with demonstrated knowledge of safety management systems, regulatory compliance, and contractor safety management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements.
