- Description Leidos is seeking a Seasonal Quality Assurance Engineer to join the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) Quality team and provide field-focused quality assurance support for construction, sustainment, and project execution activities in support of Antarctic operations. The role emphasizes inspection and test plan (ITP) verification, construction plan and specification review, field surveillance, quality records, nonconformance documentation, and risk-informed audits and assessments.
The position requires seasonal deployment to Antarctic stations for supporting the ASC Quality team and assigned subcontractor Quality Assurance staff and may include pre-deployment temporary duty travel for project familiarization, training, planning, or coordination.
** Successful completion of the physical and dental examinations required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica is a nonnegotiable requirement.
** Due to contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.
** Must obtain a Public Trust security clearance prior to starting. This process could take up to 4 months. To learn more about the Leidos Antarctic Support Contract Primary responsibilities
* Deployment to Antarctica is required and may be in length from 8-16 weeks depending on need. Anticipated deployment to be Austral Summer 2027 (Oct – Mar).
* Perform field quality inspections and surveillances of construction, maintenance, and project work against approved drawings, specifications, submittals, ITPs, contract requirements, and applicable codes or standards.
* Read and interpret construction plans, prints, technical specifications, schedules, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and design changes to verify work readiness, acceptance criteria, and conformance.
* Support development, review, and execution of ITPs, inspection checklists, hold points, witness points, test requirements, and objective evidence needed for release, turnover, or acceptance of work.
* Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up quality checks for definable features of work; document deficiencies, completion status, inspection results, and required follow-up actions.
* Assist in risk-informed audits, field assessments, site walkdowns, interviews, and fact-finding reviews to evaluate quality control effectiveness, project execution risk, and corrective action implementation.
* Identify, document, and help disposition quality issues, nonconforming work, punch-list items, lessons learned, and recommended corrective or preventive actions in accordance with program processes.
* Coordinate with project management, construction management, engineering, safety, subcontractors, and on-ice personnel to resolve quality issues, reduce rework, and maintain clear records of decisions and verification activities.
* Support close-out, turnover, commissioning, and certification packages by verifying required inspections, tests, material records, as-built information, and acceptance documentation are complete and traceable. Requirements/Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, quality management, or a related field; additional directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
* Three or more years of experience in construction QA/QC, project engineering, field engineering, construction management, inspection, or a closely related construction role.
* Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schedules, specifications, submittals, and technical documentation.
* Working knowledge of construction QA/QC practices, inspection and testing, nonconformance management, corrective action, and quality record control.
* Ability to independently prioritize assigned quality activities, conduct field walkdowns, document objective evidence, and communicate findings clearly in writing and verbally.
* Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams in remote, industrial, or active construction environments while complying with applicable safety, environmental, health, and waste management requirements.
