Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
The purpose of this position is to ensure the sewer meter stations are working properly, diagnose sewer line problems and coordinate sewer system maintenance contract efforts in support of the Water/Sewer Supervisor(s). Employees in this classification perform skilled technical operations and maintenance work. Position is responsible for collecting flow pressure and alarm data; televising sewer lines; performing tests and reporting results;
maintaining manholes; deploying portable meters, conducting field operations related to I&I studies; and maintaining meter calibrations and meter stations. Additional responsibilities include operation and maintenance of SCADA system, pump station(s) and related utility security alarm systems; development of annual sanitary sewer project requirements for the CIP; review of technical specifications as necessary to ensure compliance with current standards; and performance of research on products and equipment that are identified in the specifications.
Must carry a town cell phone at all times and be available/on‑call on a 24/7 basis, as directed.
- High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by vocational/technical training in sewer systems operation and maintenance; also supplemented by one or more years’ experience and/or training that includes CCTV inspections; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience using computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Possession of flagging certification issued by the Virginia Department of Transportation, or ability to obtain within three months of employment.
- Must be able to complete competent person training for trench safety and confined space entry within six months of employment.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (Class
B) with acceptable record with tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain within twelve months of employment. - NASCCO PACP certified or attain certification within twelve months of employment.
