Job Description & How to Apply Below

Amazon’s Dedicated Cloud (ADC) AWS Commerce Platform team is hiring a cleared Systems Development Engineer. This role uses the latest cloud computing technologies to help U.S. Government agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems.

In this role you join a team of highly talented engineers building and supporting Amazon’s billing systems in air‑gapped cloud environments, and you develop services and tooling to improve how we operate these services. Your work unlocks the latest billing and cost‑management capabilities for our U.S. ADC customers.

A successful Systems Development Engineer focuses on building services and tooling that enhance our operational posture, and thinks about the scalability, availability, and operational readiness of their designs. You work at the intersection of business problems and technology strategy, balancing constraints and considering the long‑term impact of your decisions.

This position requires an active TS/SCI with polygraph clearance (or equivalent). After starting, you must obtain and maintain that clearance for each agency for which you perform AWS work.

Key job responsibilities

You will work in a fast‑paced environment. Typical tasks include deep diving to root‑cause customer issues, investigating why metrics trend incorrectly, consulting with senior engineers, and designing radical approaches to automate remediation of operational issues. You will operate, engineer, and maintain systems at massive scale, improving distribution, response, measurement, and automation to support rapid platform growth and government service efficiency.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or CSSLP – Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional)
  • 2+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience
  • 1+ year of designing or architecting reliable, scalable systems
  • Experience programming in at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, Power Shell, or Ruby
  • Current, active U.S. Government TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Power Shell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java
  • Experience working in Agile using Scrum
  • 1+ year of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, OS, and hands‑on systems engineering
