The Cloud Software Engineer serves as a technical Subject Matter Expert who designs, builds, and maintains cloud‑native applications and the underlying platform services and automation frameworks that support them. This role blends software engineering, cloud platform engineering, Dev Ops automation, and operational troubleshooting to deliver scalable, resilient, and cost‑efficient cloud solutions. The Cloud Engineer collaborates closely with Agile development teams, supports customer mission needs, and ensures alignment with enterprise best practices, governance requirements, and platform standards.
This role is essential to ensuring reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement of cloud capabilities across the enterprise.
- Serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) in cloud‑native software engineering, cloud platform engineering, Dev Ops automation, and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC).
- Design, develop, and deploy modular cloud‑based systems and services.
- Develop software using languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Ruby to support application functionality, automation, and integration.
- Apply strong programming and software engineering practices to ensure accurate interpretation, implementation, testing, and maintainability of code.
- Build and maintain cloud solutions using AWS services including S3, RDS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, and Cloud Formation.
- Implement and maintain Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) using Cloud Formation and related automation frameworks to provision, configure, and manage cloud resources.
- Utilize Dev Ops tools such as Git Hub and Jenkins to implement continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Containerize and automate workloads using Docker and configuration‑management tools such as Ansible.
- Apply open‑source technologies, software development principles, and system engineering practices to support cloud solution design and implementation.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve cloud infrastructure vulnerabilities, performance issues, and application deployment failures.
- Regularly review existing systems and recommend improvements for scalability, reliability, security, and cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain cloud solutions in alignment with customer best practices, architectural guidance, and governance standards.
- Collaborate with Agile Scrum teams to deliver iterative, high‑quality cloud capabilities.
- Interact with customers to provide cloud support, gather requirements, and recommend technical solutions based on mission needs.
- Design, integrate, and maintain web services and RESTful APIs to support application interoperability and data exchange.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying cloud‑native applications and services.
- Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Ruby.
- Hands‑on experience with AWS services including S3, RDS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, and Cloud Formation.
