The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is responsible for providing services in a respectful and compassionate manner, including forensic evaluation and documentation.

• Perform and document sexual assault medical forensic interviews/exams accurately and timely.
• Perform a complete medical forensic evaluation (head-to-toe assessment, genital/anal examination, forensic specimen collection, photo documentation).
• Assess mandatory reporting status and report when appropriate.
• Maintain chain of custody and adhere to evidence guidelines.
• Ensure patient/medical record confidentiality at all times (HIPAA).
• Administer prophylactic medications and emergency contraception as ordered.
• Coordinate referrals for follow-up care.
• Respond to subpoenas and testify as a fact witness as requested.

Qualifications:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment start.
• Registered Nurse license within 7 days of employment start.
• Associate Degree within 7 days of employment start.
• Minimum one year acute nursing experience required.
• Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training within 180 days of hire.
