Peer Mentors support Bruin Scholar Program Coordinators and students. A Peer Mentors position is centered on student interactions, helping coordinators stay connected with students, and social and academic event planning and execution.

Special Instructions

Part-time, approximately 10-20 hours per week.

Schedule is negotiable, but office hours need to be covered.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Continuous follow-up with students in the Bruin Scholars program to assist them in locating needed resources; encouraging them to continuously enroll in school; directing them to an advisor for any academic concerns.
  • Researching and creating activities to encourage learning and involvement in SLCC.
  • Being familiar with SLCC enrollment and registration process.
  • Being familiar with Banner and MySuccess to locate needed information and assist the office with Orientation holds.
  • Track student interactions.
  • Other duties as assigned by coordinator.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with a wide range of diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, cultural competencies, and sensibilities.
  • Work collaboratively with other office staff, a variety of campus departments and community personnel.
  • Utilize basic computer operating systems and SLCC's computer systems (Banner, Degree Works, Ring Central, MySuccess, Teams, Loops, and Sharepoint).
  • Demonstrate professionalism.
  • Knowledge of HB 144 and other Undocumented Student resources.
    • Must have a 2.0 GPA or higher
    • Must be a current SLCC student
    • Must be eligible to work in the United States
    • Eligible for Work-Study (FAFSA)
    Preference will go to candidates who are
  • A current and active Bruin Scholar
  • Demonstrate strong public speaking skills
  • Bilinqual or multi-lingual
