The MHS Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) program impacts students as they can learn a variety of instruments and easily can explore areas of interest or passion right here on campus. MHS is currently seeking a Marching Band 2nd Assistant to join the High School band staff in overseeing all aspects of the front ensemble; leading rehearsals, teaching appropriate technique, and facilitating student development in musical proficiency and resilience. The 2nd Assistant will work in close coordination with band staff to manage logistics while ensuring a safe and organized rehearsal and performance environment.

The schedule will include regular Tuesdays and Thursdays after school rehearsals and regular Friday/Saturday performances (football games, parades, and competitions). A commitment for the fall band season with approximately 200 hours required from August 2026 through November 2026. Stipend is determined based on experience: $4,301 – $5,59. The successful candidate may be considered for a similar Winter Indoor Percussion 1st Assistant position.

• High school diploma/GED equivalent
• Bachelor’s degree in music or education or related field preferred
• Minimum 1-year experience performing in high school or college groups
• Minimum 1-year experience instructing
• Strong experience with mallets preferred
• Candidates must exhibit a commitment to high student achievement and support for all students in a diverse & multicultural environment
• Candidate must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, as all MHS staff are role models for MHS students.
