Overview
Milton Hershey School (MHS) is a pre-K through 12 private school serving approximately 2,200 students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The school is fully endowed and focused on providing a cost-free home and high-quality education. MHS prepares graduates to lead fulfilling lives and is expanding to serve more students.
MHS is seeking a student-centered part-time Dance Teacher to work with Elementary & Middle School dance studios. This is a 10-month position (August–June), up to 29 hours per week, including before school, after school, and some weekends. The role involves delivering engaging instruction that builds foundational dance and leadership skills and developing student confidence. The teacher will organize rehearsals, choreograph performances, and collaborate with faculty members.
The dance teacher will create a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel supported and motivated to reach their potential, academically and in life. MHS teachers are represented by the Milton Hershey School Education Association (MHEA).
Responsibilities- Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate dance instruction for elementary and middle school students across multiple dance styles (e.g., tap, ballet, modern, jazz).
- Organize rehearsals, choreograph routines, and prepare students for performances.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate dance activities with school programs and events.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and motivating learning environment; monitor student progress and behavior.
- Mentor and develop youth, including working with low-income students as applicable.
- Manage classroom expectations, maintain organization, and communicate effectively with students and families.
- Demonstrate integrity and engage with students beyond the scope of job responsibilities as appropriate.
- Bachelor’s degree in dance, education, or related field preferred.
- Experience teaching multiple dance styles (tap, ballet, modern, jazz) using diverse instructional practices.
- Minimum 3 years of instructional experience with school-age students (elementary through high school).
- Strong organizational, classroom management, and communication skills.
- Availability to work August through June and weekends; flexible to school calendar.
