Job Summary
Responsible for the analysis of medical records and assignment of accurate ICD-9-CM and/or ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnostic and procedural codes, as well as CPT‑4 procedural codes, for all inpatient, short stay, and observation services to assure accurate hospital reimbursement. Work with physicians, administrative and financial staff as required to assure valid code assignments and/or clarification for timely billing. Serve as a mentor/resource for less experienced staff and serve in a lead role in the absence of the Supervisor.

- Either an Associates degree in Health Information Technology or Nursing, or successful completion of a coding certificate program.
- 3 years of coding experience in an acute care setting, coding Inpatient, Observation, and/or Same Days.
- Certification as RHIT or CCS.
- Passing score on a pre‑employment skills assessment test required.
- Familiarity with medical record documentation conventions.
- Working knowledge of computers.
- Extensive skill level of office software.
- Ability to analyze data and communicate effectively.
