Role Summary

The Staff Nurse, RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for a designated group of surgical patients.

Responsibilities include establishing care priorities, developing and executing perioperative nursing plans, providing patient and family education, supporting discharge planning, documenting care and patient progress, and collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality surgical outcomes.

Through both circulating and scrub experiences, nurses play an integral role in procedural efficiency, sterile technique, and intraoperative patient advocacy.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period

Please note - Penn State Hershey requires all registered nurses hired after July 1, 2015 to enroll in a baccalaureate in nursing degree program within one year of their hire date and complete the degree within 4 years of their hire date. (This does not apply if your hire date was prior to June 30, 2015).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior Operating Room experience or be enrolled in (or have successfully completed) the Hershey Medical Center Perioperative Course Program
  • At least 1 year Operating Room experience preferred
