SUMMARY OF POSITION:
We are seeking qualified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner candidates for an intensivist role in the Heart and Vascular Institute Critical Care Unit (HVICCU). The unit is a 30-bed service providing 24/7/365 management of cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, cardiology, interventional and mechanical circulatory support patients, including those who have undergone CABG, valve surgery, LVADs, ECMO, and cardiac transplantation.
APPs are responsible for direct critical care patient management in the HVICCU, including management of complex therapies such as IABP, Impella, VADs, ECMO, CRRT, respiratory support, inotropes, vasopressors, and vasoactive infusions. APPs participate in daily rounds, perform assessments, and revise medical management plans in collaboration with physicians, consulted services, nursing, and the interdisciplinary team. Procedures include placement of arterial lines, central lines, Swan-Ganz catheter, removal of IABP, chest tubes, and cardiac pacing wires.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner Program with a minimum of one year CRNP experience (including clinical rotations or relevant clinical experience) and 3 years of critical care experience as a staff nurse is required.
- Licensed and in good standing with the Pennsylvania Board of Nursing as a CRNP.
- Knowledge of critical care, including Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- National certification as an advanced practice nurse is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Critical thinking and comprehensive physical assessment skills.
- Ability to diagnose and formulate a medical management plan.
- Ability to communicate effectively with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and families during critical situations.
