Job Overview

The Hershey Company West Hershey plant is a union facility that produces a variety of chocolate and snack products. This role provides leadership and direction to develop and implement safety programs that ensure compliance with regulations and company policy.

Responsibilities
  • Compliance
    • Implement specific safety policies and programs.
    • Develop and deliver plant‑wide safety training.
    • Provide technical guidance on safety issues to Plant Leadership and cross‑functional teams.
    • Interpret OSHA standards and maintain a cooperative relationship with regulators.
  • Auditing
    • Conduct regular internal audits and safety assessments.
    • Document findings, report nonconformances, and follow up.
    • Coordinate inspections of safety procedures, equipment, and programs.
  • Incident Management
    • Investigate incidents independently and analyze trends.
    • Initiate corrective and preventative action plans.
    • Communicate findings and assist Plant Leadership with resolution.
  • Safety Management System & Continuous Improvement
    • Develop and drive implementation of performance indicators and metrics.
    • Assist with development, implementation, and monitoring of Safety Management System documentation.
    • Conduct program reviews, update documentation, and evaluate hazards.
  • Workers Compensation
    • Assist with workers compensation investigations and follow‑up.
    • Provide updates and guidance to plant leadership and manage cases.
  • Industrial Hygiene
    • Set up sampling equipment and gather data.
    • Analyze reports and make recommendations.
    • Support industrial hygiene functions for EHS staff.
  • Project / Business Unit Support
    • Lead continuous improvement using safety program elements.
    • Lead Safety documentation team and participate in multifunctional improvement teams.
    • Work with Project Managers to identify safety issues early in design and development.
  • Training
    • Create and implement training programs for new hire orientation and regulatory requirements.
    • Develop and conduct health and safety courses for supervisors and employees.
  • Environmental
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
    • Audit systems, prepare permits, and submit required reports.
    • Develop sustainability programs and collaborate with Green Teams.
Qualifications
  • Maintain currency with all applicable safety and environmental standards.
  • Working knowledge of ergonomics to improve processes.
  • Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Strong document management, communication, problem‑solving, and auditing skills.
  • Leadership skills and ability to influence all employee levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP EH&S, SAP PM, and related software.
  • Ability to work flexibly, climb ladders, and lift moderately heavy items.
  • Strong presentation and training development skills.
  • Flexible to changing priorities and work in a team or independently.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational/Industrial Safety, Safety Engineering, Human Factors, or related field (preferred; equivalent experience considered).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment managing EHS programs.
  • Preference for food or consumer packaged goods experience.
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems such as VPP, OHSAS 18001, or ANSI Z10 is a plus.
