Position Overview
A full-time Research Technologist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Yongsoo Kim in the Neural and Behavioral Sciences Department at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. The lab focuses on understanding the cell type architecture of the nervous system and how it supports cognitive functions in the mammalian brain using mice as an animal model. Main brain diseases of interest include neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.
The role involves performing various systems neuroscience experiments (in vivo neural circuit recording and manipulation with behavioral tests), high-resolution whole brain imaging, mouse colony management, genotyping, and other supportive research work. Additional responsibilities include supervising students, ordering supplies, managing laboratory animals, assisting with data analysis and safety protocols, and maintaining equipment. Candidates should be willing to learn new techniques, be responsible, self‑motivated, detail-oriented, flexible, a good communicator, and possess strong organizational skills.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the above skill sets.

FundingThis position is funded for 1 year(s); continuation past 1 year(s) will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.
Responsibilities- Perform in vivo neural circuit recording and manipulation with behavioral tests.
- Conduct high-resolution whole brain imaging and related computational analysis.
- Manage mouse colony, including genotyping and animal care.
- Coordinate procurement of supplies and equipment maintenance.
- Supervise students and assist with data analysis and safety protocols.
- Maintain laboratory records and manage laboratory animals.
- Bachelor's Degree required; prior relevant work experience may substitute for education.
- 1+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience accepted for the Intermediate Professional level.

Salary and BenefitsSalary range: $34,800.00 - $55,500.00. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; retirement plans; paid time off (holidays, vacation, and sick time); and a generous 75% tuition discount for employees, spouses, and children.
