Overview We are seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Technician to support food microbiology testing and laboratory operations within a quality-focused environment. This role is primarily responsible for media preparation, laboratory testing support, inventory management, and microbiological analysis of food products and environmental samples.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on food microbiology experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a laboratory setting focused on food safety and quality.
Responsibilities Media Preparation & Laboratory Operations
  • Prepare microbiological media for in-house food testing activities
  • Maintain inventory and an adequate supply of prepared and commercially available microbiological media
  • Coordinate the destruction and disposal of samples following result reporting
  • Maintain autoclave records related to media preparation and sample destruction
  • Ensure laboratory supplies and materials are organized and available to support testing needs
Microbiological Testing Support
  • Perform microbiological analyses of food ingredients, finished products, and environmental swab samples
  • Conduct plating procedures for hygiene indicators
  • Support molecular testing for foodborne pathogens
  • Assist with sample receiving, preparation, and processing
  • Review, interpret, and document microbiological testing results
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
Quality & Compliance
  • Follow laboratory procedures, safety standards, and quality protocols
  • Support food safety and quality assurance initiatives
  • Ensure testing activities are completed accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biology, or a related scientific field
  • 2-3 years of food microbiology testing experience
OR
  • 5+ years of food microbiology laboratory experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree
  • Experience preparing microbiological media
  • Knowledge of microbiological laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Experience performing food microbiology analyses
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Food Science background
  • Experience in food manufacturing, food safety, or quality laboratory environments
  • Experience with foodborne pathogen testing
  • Experience interpreting microbiological data and laboratory results
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring and hygiene testing programs
