MHS is seeking a full-time Carpenter – Structural Trades Tech II to join the team. The primary focus of this role will be carpentry work, including roofing, painting, masonry, flooring, and general building maintenance. This position also requires proficiency in all structural trade disciplines. The ideal candidate will possess journeyman-level skills, demonstrated through a professional examination with a minimum score of 70% and a successful practical skills test.
This role requires the ability to perform corrective, proactive, and preventive maintenance across campus facilities, including equipment and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, repair, maintain, and perform maintenance and inspections on items related to carpentry, including:
Doors and hardware (electronic latches, panic hardware, and various locking mechanisms) Windows and hardware (with security screens and various locking mechanisms) Flooring (sub-flooring, hardwood) Ceilings and wall partitions (wood, metal, drywall, and bathroom) Countertops (Formica, Corian, Surrell) Design and construction of cabinetry and casework Perform general facility maintenance, ensuring safe, functional spaces for students and staff.
Work Schedule:
Full-time Monday - Friday 1:00 pm - 9:30 pm. (40 hours per week with 2 days off). Availability to work 1st shift (7:00 am - 3:30 pm) during the training/onboarding period. Salary: this is year-round, onsite position with pay at $40.95 an hour, plus shift differential. Bargaining unit position with Local OPS-464.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial and residential carpentry and facilities maintenance, OR 2 years of trade school and 3 years of relevant experience Proficiency in working with large equipment. Valid PA Driver's License (CDL Class B preferred). Experience with masonry structures and fencing. Knowledge of playground equipment is a plus. Ability to read blueprints, create layouts, and order supplies.
Experience with renovations/remodeling in commercial and residential spaces. Asbestos Awareness Training preferred. Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Basic knowledge using Microsoft applications. Willingness to proactively engage with students. Must demonstrate high integrity, as all MHS staff serve as role models for students.
