Job Title: Instructional Assistant

Salary: $20,944 to $25,223 Annually

Salary calculation: commensurate with job experience.

Primary

Purpose:

Provide instructional assistance to students under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED;
Valid Texas educational aide certificate;
Associate’s degree (two years of study at a higher learning institution) or meeting formal academic assessment through the Region XII Service Center, if applicable.
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics;
Ability to work well with children;
Ability to communicate effectively.
Experience: Some experience working with children.

Instructions and Duties Instructional Support

Provide instruction to students under the direction of assigned teacher or program; work with individual students or small groups.

Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.

Assist teacher in implementing instructional strategies and concepts to address student needs.

Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.

Help maintain neat and orderly instructional environment.

Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.

Provide assistance to substitute teachers.

Student Management

Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom or designated areas, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

Keep teacher/supervisor aware of special needs or problems of individual students.

Clerical Support

Compile, maintain, and file reports, requisitions, records and other documents according to standard procedures.

Other Duties

Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

Uphold and enforce state and local policies of the school.

Maintain confidentiality.

Physical and Mental Demands

Standard office equipment including PC and peripherals. Moderately standing, occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping; moderate walking; regular light lifting (less than 15 pounds). Work inside and outside, with exposure to noise. Frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
