Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly detail-oriented and self-driven Staff Accountant with strong experience in job cost accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) accruals, and revenue recognition/matching principles. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, project-based environment and is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with project managers and contract administrators.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and reconcile job cost accounting records; ensure all costs are coded and allocated correctly to projects
- Oversee the full Accounts Payable life cycle from setting up vendors, maintaining strict controls around purchase order usage, and managing the AP aging
- Oversee the full Accounts Receivable process to ensure revenue is tracked accurately, and lead customer credit administration, monitor AR aging and lien process
- Assist with revenue recognition in compliance with GAAP, the matching principle, and percentage-of-completion accounting methods
- Prepare monthly WIP schedules, analyze over/under billings, and coordinate adjustments with project teams
- Support contract administration activities including change orders, billing schedules, retention tracking, and compliance documentation
- Collaborate with managers to review job performance, cost variances, and margin analysis
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries, accruals, and month-end close tasks
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of supporting documentation for invoicing and audit purposes
- Assist with annual audits and special accounting projects as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred and/or equivalent of 2–5 years of experience in job cost or project-based accounting, preferably within construction, engineering, utilities, or a related industry
- Strong understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition principles
- Experience with WIP reporting, cost accruals, and project billing processes
- Proficiency with accounting software, quickbooks, and ERP systems
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data validation
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to type 70 WPM with 95% accuracy
