St. John the Apostle Catholic Parish in Hialeah (Dade County), Florida, has an immediate opening for a Parish Secretary / Receptionist who will be responsible for providing first-point-of-contact customer service for general inquiries and visitors to the parish office. Primary duties are answering and greeting callers, assessing their needs, and directing them to the appropriate parties. The Parish Secretary / Receptionist receives and directs both walk-in and scheduled visitors.

Primary secretarial duties are dictation and composing correspondence; recording and processing Mass intentions; compiling the weekly church bulletin; sacramental and other record-keeping. This employee assists in other clerical and/or administrative task of the Office as needed and performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.
Qualifications:
  • High School degree or GED equivalent and three (3) years' administrative experience in a customer service or parish environment.
  • Must have knowledge of basic tenets of Catholic Church and parish structures.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including ability to maintain focus on and professionalism with people in challenging situations, both in person and by phone.
  • Demonstrated history of maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Must be able to multi-task and retain accuracy in an environment of competing deadlines.
  • Good computer literacy, including ability to navigate online applications and knowledge of search-engine-optimization best practices.
  • Experience working with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher. PowerPoint a plus.
  • Good oral and written English-language communication skills, including clear speaking voice.
  • Good oral and written Spanish-language communication skills, including clear speaking voice required.
  • Good spelling and grammar are required.
  • Must be supportive and respectful of the mission and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church; experience in Roman Catholic environment preferred.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and present positive, professional demeanor.
