Role Description
The Parlor Magazine is a feminist publication dedicated to long‑form essays, investigative reporting, and cultural commentary. Focused on topics such as motherhood, labor, politics, technology, identities, and the body, the magazine offers critical, nuanced storytelling that connects the personal to the political. It is a space for diverse voices and lived experiences, speaking with urgency, humor, and contradiction. The magazine resists simplification, challenging power structures while creating a platform for meaningful narratives.
We’re seeking volunteer photojournalism workshop leaders to host short online sessions (60–90 minutes) for emerging visual storytellers. We’re building a global feminist media collective that amplifies under‑represented voices through ethical storytelling, collaboration, and care. We’re looking for experienced photographers and visual journalists who want to share their knowledge and help shape a new generation of values‑driven storytellers.
Ideal workshop topics include:- Seeing Through a Feminist Lens – expanding visual literacy and challenging the traditional gaze
- Consent, Context & Composition – ethics and power in documentary photography
- Collaborative Storytelling & Visual Editing – co‑creating narratives with your subjects
- From Portfolio to Public – building a sustainable practice and presenting your work with integrity
- Experienced photographers, photo editors, or visual journalists
- A collaborative, inclusive teaching approach
- Availability to lead at least one 60–90 minute session per quarter
- Visibility on The Parlor’s website and social platforms
- Access to our editorial and creative network
- A certificate of contribution and letter of reference (on request)
If you’re passionate about reimagining visual storytelling through an ethical and feminist lens, we’d love to collaborate with you.
