About the Role:

The Academic Advisor plays a crucial role in supporting students throughout their educational journey at Hialeah Campus. This position is responsible for guiding students in their academic planning, ensuring they are aware of available resources and opportunities for personal and professional development. The advisor will work closely with students to help them navigate challenges, set achievable goals, and make informed decisions about their academic paths.

By fostering a supportive and engaging environment, the Academic Advisor contributes to student retention and success. Ultimately, this role aims to empower students to reach their full potential and achieve their educational aspirations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field.

  • Experience in academic advising or student affairs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement:
    Bachelor’s in psychology, Counseling or Educational Leadership. Master level Preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills, customer service and be able to work in a team environment.

  • Communicate effectively in written and oral form in both English and Spanish.

  • Experience in community outreach and student recruitment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one academic advising to students, helping them understand degree requirements and course selection.

  • Develop and implement programs that promote student engagement and community outreach.

  • Assist students in identifying career goals and provide resources for career counseling and job placement.

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance student development initiatives and support services.

  • Monitor student progress and intervene when necessary to ensure academic success and retention.

Skills:

The required skills in student affairs and academic advising are essential for effectively guiding students through their educational experiences. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are utilized daily to build rapport with students and understand their unique needs. Skills in community outreach and student engagement are leveraged to create programs that foster a sense of belonging and support among the student body.

Career counseling abilities are applied to help students explore their career options and connect them with relevant resources. Additionally, staff development skills are important for collaborating with colleagues to enhance the overall student experience.
