Overview

Due to continued growth, our Power Delivery group is seeking Substation Principal Engineers. In this role, you will participate and contribute to complex projects in both design and project leadership capacities, interfacing with current and future customers directly while working on challenging low‑to‑high voltage substation engineering projects. This position can be based in the following office locations:

  • Orlando, FL
  • Palm Beach Gardens, FL
  • Tampa, FL
  • Houston, TX
  • Remote, or other ENERCON office locations will also be considered
Responsibilities

  • Substation Design Expertise
    :
    Act as the subject‑matter expert for detailed 4 kV – 500 kV substation design and/or protection control and SCADA design projects. Typical deliverables include one‑line drawings, three‑line drawings, general arrangement drawings, section and plan views, conduit and cable plan & schedule, grounding plan, foundation plan drawings, bill of materials and construction aid documentation. Typical protection and control engineering deliverables include relay one‑line drawings, AC and DC schematic drawings, panel front drawings, bill of materials, control house layout, wiring drawings, and construction letters.

    Perform substation design calculations such as ground grid analysis, lightning protection studies, lighting design, rigid bus calculations, and AC and DC voltage‑drop calculations. Conduct physical design in Micro Station, AutoCAD or similar CAD tools as needed.
  • Project Leadership & Coordination
    :
    Lead substation design projects as needed. Coordinate with Protection & Controls, Structural, Civil, Transmission, and Design/Drafting teams to ensure accurate and on‑time delivery of electrical design that meets client and industry standards and specifications and good engineering practices. Produce project cost estimates, schedules, and budgets. Other duties as assigned.
  • Protection & Control Engineering
    :
    Review protection and control relay setting files and work with relay‑setting engineers to ensure the settings are correct.
  • Quality Assurance
    :
    Perform quality‑control checks on substation physical engineering and protection and control design projects.
  • Technical Documentation & Specifications
    :
    Develop technical equipment, construction specifications, and work scopes.
  • Construction & Commissioning Support
    :
    Provide on‑site technical support for select ENERCON clients during construction and commissioning as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering with 10 + years of experience in substation protection and control and physical engineering design.
  • Experience with Micro Station, AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam.
  • Experience working with WinIGS and CDEGs.
  • P.E. license is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with NESC, IEEE and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Willingness to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPE.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10 % of the time, including project and marketing meetings and client construction sites, and possess a valid driver’s license and access to a car. Most travel will be within driving distance of the ENERCON office.
  • Self‑driven time‑management skills to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables.
  • Proficient with typical office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Windows.
Compensation Range

USD $ – USD $ / yr.

Some positions may be performed remotely in one or more U.S. states. Compensation is aligned with applicable pay transparency requirements and reflects expected compensation at the time of hire.
