Assistant Building Official

Responsibilities

The Assistant Building Official assists in the enforcement and application of the Florida Building Code (FBC) and applicable City Ordinances, as they pertain to permit issuance, plan review and construction inspections. They assist in the enforcement of applicable State Statutes relevant to Project Designers and Construction Contractors and assist in the administration of Policy and Procedures for Building Services Division staff members.

Their work is reviewed in conferences with the employees, by direct observation of results achieved, and through review of reports and records.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Engineering, Architecture or equivalent.
• Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience as an electrical, general, mechanical, or plumbing contractor with five (5) years’ construction experience in High Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ), including at least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
• Certified by the State of Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) as a Building Code Administrator. Must maintain current certification.
• Must obtain certification as a Building Official by the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA) within ninety (90) days of hire.
• National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification (level to be determined by job classification) or obtain within one year of employment.
• Certified general contractor, building official, and Floodplain Manager.
• Valid Florida driver’s license with satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
• Ability to perform each of the essential functions of the position.
