Position Overview
Responsible para‑professional work in municipal law enforcement. Requires routine, non‑violent activities. The incumbent does not possess arrest powers, is not authorized to carry a firearm or impact weapon, and does not enforce criminal laws, respond to emergency calls or any calls where a potential for confrontation exists. Work assignments are given orally and in writing, performed under close, immediate supervision, and may include shift work, weekends, and holidays.
ResponsibilitiesHigh School diploma or GED equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience in a related field. Associate’s degree, plus four (4) years of experience in a related field, is preferred. Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Ability to complete PSA training, including Accident / Parking Enforcement Training.
- Knowledge of Department Regulations, City Ordinances, State Statutes and Federal Laws, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge in a reasonable period of time.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with superiors, City officials, law enforcement personnel, and the general public.
- Ability to respond to and investigate major vehicle accidents and related activities and incidents.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining complete and accurate reports.
- Skill in making group presentations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors, managers, and the public.
Regularly required to walk, sit, write, hear, speak, and exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or negligibly frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. May require fine finger work: picking, pinching, typing, or similar. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WorkEnvironment
Work involves light to moderate physical activity in outdoor settings under all weather conditions, with exposure to insects, animals and other hazards.
