Position Overview
The Malayalam Telephone Interpreter is responsible for handling calls on demand, translating between Malayalam and English, and breaking communication barriers across a wide range of industries including healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911.
Essential Job Functions- Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
- Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
- Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions and remain calm, even during emergency or emotionally charged calls.
- Ensure punctuality and availability during work hours.
- Follow client instructions and compliance protocols, maintaining confidentiality of the limited‑English‑speaking person.
- Understand and apply industry protocol and terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and other sectors.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment.
- Adapt to any LLS technology enhancements and meet client demands.
- Fluency in Malayalam and English with strong cultural competency.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to concentrate, remain detached and neutral, and handle sensitive subjects such as end‑of‑life conversations, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and matters concerning sexual orientation or gender expression.
- High school diploma or equivalent; education or experience in language‑related fields such as teaching, assessment, translation, or interpretation is preferred.
- Minimum age 18 and legal authorization to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.
- Ability to read and write in both languages (highly preferred).
- Must have a quiet, secure work environment.
- Dedicated personal device for business purposes (desktop or laptop with Windows, macOS, or Chrome
OS). - Acceptable tablets (iPadOS or Android) and smartphones (iOS or Android) are also usable.
- A high‑speed internet connection: minimum 5
Mbps download, 3
Mbps upload, ping ≤300ms, jitter ≤30ms. - Restricted brands:
Kaspersky products and Huawei hardware.
- Operating a keyboard and mouse, working in a stationary position in front of a computer for the majority of the day.
- Typing or writing with sufficient manual dexterity; able to lift up to 26lbs.
- May be exposed to moderate noise levels from computer, audio, or telephone equipment.
Pay: $0.60–$0.75 per minute.
This is an independent contractor position and therefore not eligible for employee benefits.
