This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for On-Call Emergency Managers – Safety. Since the actual work location will be the deployment site(s), these positions may report from any WSP USA office, including Boston, MA;
Jacksonville, FL;
Tallahassee, FL;
Orlando, FL;
Tampa, FL;
Miami, FL;
Birmingham, AL;
New Orleans, LA;
Raleigh, NC;
Columbia, SC;
Dallas, TX; or Houston, TX.
Emergency management cadre positions are on‑call and assignments are on an as‑needed basis. Cadre members are not eligible for benefits.
Cadre members are asked to commit 30 days; to be available for deployment with little to no advance notice (typically within 24‑48 hours); and during deployments, may work 8‑12 hours per day, 7 days a week.
Your Impact- Lead the Emergency Management team, providing services to clients preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters nationwide and in U.S. territories.
- Manage Emergency Operations Center and/or Field Staging Area operations before, during, and after disaster.
- Ensure work sites are safe for workers and comply with applicable regulations.
- Attend periodic training throughout the year to maintain deployment eligibility.
- Support Emergency Management Project Management functions.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a similar/related concentration, or equivalent.
- Minimum 5‑7 years in a Safety or Emergency Management Leadership role (Response, Recovery, or related), or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of cumulative safety experience within the last 10 years, managing or implementing a SOH program on projects similar in industry type, size, and complexity as described in the contract scope of work.
- 24 hours of documented formal classroom or online SOH‑related training within the past 5 years, and must maintain competency by completing 8 hours each year for the duration of the contract.
- Broad knowledge of Safety and Emergency Management principles, methods, and techniques. OSHA 30 Construction, General Industry or higher OSHA certification (DOL Wallet Card required after 90 days of course completion).
- Intermediate computer experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and mobile applications.
- Travel required – must be able to deploy to disaster areas with little or no advance notice (typically within 24‑48 hours) and for potentially long durations.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Master’s Degree in Safety or Emergency Management (or related field).
- Current First Aid, CPR/AED certification with hands‑on component.
- Current Bloodborne Pathogens certification.
- HAZWOPER 40‑Hour certification with hands‑on component.
- EM 385‑1‑1 training and certification.
- Experience with USACE SSHO (Site Safety and Health Officer).
- BCSP certification such as CHST, ASP, CSP or equivalent.
- FEMA Emergency Management Institute Independent Study courses (IS‑100/102/200/700/800/815).
- Previous experience leading and managing assigned safety personnel in a high‑tempo hazardous field environment 7 days a week.
- Experience in Field Staging Areas, State EOC (Emergency Operations Center) or related environment.
