Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our growing rheumatology practice in Lake Mary, Florida. The Infusion RN is responsible for preparing and administering infusion therapies and injectable medications, monitoring patients during treatment, coordinating infusion schedules, providing patient education, and serving as a clinical resource for patients receiving biologic and specialty therapies.

The ideal candidate possesses strong IV skills, excellent clinical judgment, exceptional customer service, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced outpatient infusion setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Infusion Therapy Administration
  • Prepare, mix, and administer physician-ordered infusion medications in accordance with established protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Verify medication orders prior to administration.
  • Establish and maintain peripheral intravenous (IV) access.
  • Administer intravenous medications, biologic therapies, and injectable medications.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after infusion treatments.
  • Assess and document patient response to therapy.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to infusion reactions and medical emergencies.
  • Maintain infusion pumps and related equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with medication storage, handling, and safety requirements.
Patient Assessment and Clinical Care
  • Obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, and clinical assessments.
  • Review laboratory results and treatment parameters prior to infusion.
  • Educate patients regarding medications, potential side effects, treatment expectations, and follow-up care.
  • Provide ongoing support and counseling for patients receiving biologic and immunosuppressive therapies.
  • Communicate treatment concerns and clinical findings to providers.
Patient Triage and Communication
  • Respond to patient phone calls and portal messages regarding medication side effects, infusion-related concerns, and treatment questions.
  • Perform nursing triage and escalate urgent concerns to providers appropriately.
  • Provide timely follow-up to patient inquiries and treatment-related concerns.
Scheduling and Coordination
  • Schedule and coordinate infusion appointments based on physician orders and treatment protocols.
  • Verify treatment plans, medication availability, and required laboratory testing prior to scheduling.
  • Manage infusion chair utilization and patient flow to maximize efficiency.
Documentation and Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Complete infusion records, medication administration records, and adverse event documentation.
  • Adhere to all OSHA, HIPAA, state nursing regulations, and practice policies.
  • Participate in quality assurance and infection control activities.
Inventory and Medication Management
  • Monitor medication inventory and supplies.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and maintaining infusion supplies.
  • Ensure proper storage, refrigeration, and handling of specialty medications.
  • Maintain accurate medication logs and inventory records.
Qualifications Required
  • Active Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
  • Strong IV insertion and venipuncture skills.
  • Experience with medication administration and patient assessment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records.
Preferred
  • Infusion nursing experience.
  • Rheumatology, oncology, gastroenterology, immunology, or specialty infusion experience.
  • Experience administering biologic therapies.
  • Experience managing infusion reactions and emergency situations.

The right candidate can independently manage an outpatient infusion suite, including medication preparation, patient scheduling, inventory management, nursing triage, and coordination with providers, authorization staff and pharmacies.
