Job Description & How to Apply Below

Principal Scientist, Computational Biology

Location:

Cambridge, MA – no remote option

We seek a creative and passionate computational biologist to join the Neuroscience, Immunology, and Cardiovascular (NIC) discovery team within the Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS) organization. In this role, you will apply your analytical skills to single‑cell, multi‑omics, spatial profiling, and gene perturbation datasets generated from both patients and model organisms. You will work as part of a cross‑functional team focused on early pipeline programs in Neuroscience, Immunology, and Cardiovascular to discover targets and compounds that directly address unmet medical needs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform computational research and integrative analyses on multimodal biological profiling datasets (e.g., transcriptomic, proteomic, single‑cell omics, spatial profiling) to support early pipeline programs.
  • Apply machine learning and other advanced computational/statistical approaches to compare high‑dimensional experimental readouts from perturbation experiments/screens (e.g., CRISPR screens, perturb‑seq, cellular imaging) with disease states defined by patient data, and nominate and validate new targets for neuro‑, cardiovascular, and autoimmune disease indications.
  • Collaborate with external partners in industry, academia, and pre‑competitive collaborations (e.g., NIH Accelerating Medicines Partnership) on novel computational and experimental approaches.
  • Communicate findings and recommend follow‑up actions in multiple settings, including one‑on‑one, seminars, and team meetings.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computational biology, computational genomics/genetics, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or related discipline; 8+ years of academic/industry experience.
  • Master’s degree in the same fields; 6+ years of academic/industry experience.
  • PhD in the same fields; 4+ years of academic/industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in at least one high‑level programming language such as R or Python for computational research and reproducible research practices.
  • 5+ years of post‑graduate computational biology research experience (biopharma industry preferred) with a track record in driving and advancing research projects/programs.
  • Hands‑on experience analyzing and integrating high‑dimensional molecular datasets such as multi‑omics (RNA‑seq, ATAC‑seq, proteomics, ChIP‑seq/CUT&RUN), single‑cell (CITE‑seq, scATAC‑seq, perturb‑seq) and spatial profiling (Xenium, Visium, Geo Mx, CosMX).
  • Experience implementing or developing statistical methodologies and machine learning algorithms applied to biological problems.
  • Background in human disease biology, especially neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, and autoimmune diseases.
  • Experience applying computer vision models to cellular imaging data and using AI agents to accelerate workflow.
  • Scientific curiosity and ability to self‑learn.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
Compensation Overview

Cambridge, MA – $166,770 to $202,086 for a full‑time employee. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available. Final pay will be determined based on demonstrated experience.

Benefits
  • Health coverage: medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision care.
  • Well‑being support programs: BMS Well‑Being Account, BMS Living Life Better, Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
  • Financial and life‑insurance benefits: 401(k) plan, short‑ and long‑term disability, life insurance, accident insurance, supplemental health insurance, business travel protection, personal liability protection, identity theft benefit, legal support, and survivor support.
