What you’ll be doing- Performs tasks outlined below within the defined political boundaries of the City of Parkland, or other areas only as permitted by inter‑local agreement.
- Examines all specifications, blueprints, and plans of electrical installations, remodeling, removal, and repair to ensure they are in compliance with city, country, state, and Federal code and regulations.
- Prepares comments on plans found to be deficient, based on code, and ensures completion of corrections prior to approval.
- Performs inspections of electrical installations, including work and materials, used in installing or extending a system of electrical wiring for the use of light, heat, power, or low voltage systems installed in new construction, additions, alterations, or repairs to existing systems.
- Assists in resolving problems or answering questions by interaction with contractors, owners, builders, electricians, Building Officials, and inspectors.
- Assists in the investigation of complaints of defective electrical installations which are reported as fire and other hazards.
- Participates with all staff members in pre‑hurricane preparations and post‑storm recovery efforts.
- Attends training classes, meetings, and seminars in order to maintain certification.
- Provides ideas and suggestions for the improvement of department processes.
- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Licensed as a Journeyman Electrician or Certified Electrical Contractor (EC), or be eligible to obtain such license.
- Five (5) years of related work experience.
- Must be able to meet the certification requirements of the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals as found in Chapter 1 of the Broward County Administrative Provisions of the Florida Building Code.
- Must be certified or able to be certified by the Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board, State of Florida, in the category sought.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Knowledge of computer and technical skills including mathematics with the use of complex drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and various types of precision measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and materials involved in designing, constructing and installing a variety of electrical systems and equipment.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code, Florida Building Code, NFPA Standards, NRTL acceptance programs, and general construction codes.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards, rules, and regulations.
- Skill in applying knowledge of the National Electrical Code, the Florida Building Code, and all other applicable codes.
- Skill in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi‑line telephone systems.
- Skill in using computers for data entry.
- Skill in using computers for word processing and accounting purposes.
- Ability to take direction from supervisors and implement plans, policies, and practices as directed.
- Ability to refine existing planning and building practices to improve both quality and quantity of work output.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in order to prepare reports and maintain records.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, blueprints, engineering, and wiring diagrams, and to determine deviation from plan during the construction process.
- Ability to make decisions, recognizing established precedents and practices, and to use resourcefulness and tact in meeting new problems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical plans and specifications;
