Automotive Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Job Summary
Company Cox Automotive – Cox Fleet – is hiring a Light/Medium Duty Automotive Technician to perform preventive maintenance, light and follow‑up repairs, diagnostics, and DOT inspections on light and medium duty trucks (F150, F250, F350, and specialty equipment) at customer locations. The role requires 100% travel and follows a rotating schedule of Monday‑Friday one week, Monday‑Saturday the next week.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light and medium vehicles.
- Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and equipment lubrication.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, lifts and jacks to service vehicles.
- Diagnose, adjust and repair electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, transmissions, clutches, differential and other systems.
- Utilize test instruments such as scanners and pressure gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
- Select and order parts needed for each job and pick them up for installation.
- Maintain compliance with safety, health, environmental and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Document all work, upload pictures and complete DOT and other forms on Repair Orders.
- Keep the work environment clean and safe, performing cleanup at day’s end.
- Communicate with support teams for repair approvals and address customer needs.
- Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize work effectively.
- Participate in required company safety training and keep the service vehicle in safe condition with daily pre/post‑trip checks.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred; valid driver’s license required.
- Safe driver required.
- Minimum of one year of experience as an automotive technician on light/medium vehicle repair (or equivalent education/certifications).
- Two years of equivalent experience in a similar technician role.
- Must possess a set of hand tools necessary for the duties.
- Participation in and completion of all company training.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship (no OPT, CPT, STEM/OPT, or visa sponsorship).
- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand and walk for long periods; capable of moderate heavy labor.
- Strong communication and two‑way listening skills.
- Decision‑making using logical reasoning and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to determine appropriate tools and equipment needed for tasks.
- Ability to judge distances and distances between objects accurately.
- Flat‑rate (“flag”) compensation ranging from $20.10 to $30.10 per flag hour, with possible additional commission and incentive program.
