Position Summary

Diesel Mechanic B is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy‑duty and light‑duty fleet vehicles, including diesel, gasoline, and CNG‑powered equipment. This position requires knowledge of engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, hydraulics, electrical systems, body components, and vehicle computer systems. Welding and fabrication experience is beneficial.

Essential Job Functions
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs to maximize fleet safety and reliability.
  • Review and complete repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and repair orders.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections.
  • Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, suspension, steering, brake systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and body components.
  • Utilize OEM diagnostic software and onboard vehicle computer systems to identify failures and complete repairs.
  • Perform repairs using Factory Service Manuals and manufacturer specifications.
  • Conduct safety inspections on vehicles and equipment.
  • Communicate repair needs and preventive maintenance recommendations with drivers and management.
  • Complete repair documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Follow all Waste Pro safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist and provide guidance to Assistant Technicians and Shop Helpers.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and a strong commitment to quality workmanship.
Qualified Candidates Should Possess:
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing heavy‑duty diesel trucks or heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of suspension inspection, diagnosis, and repair.
  • Knowledge of brake system inspection, diagnosis, and repair.
  • Knowledge of electrical system troubleshooting and repair.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic system diagnosis and repair.
  • Proficiency using computerized diagnostic equipment and OEM software.
  • Ability to interpret Factory Service Manuals and technical repair information.
  • Ability to complete repairs within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Ability to estimate labor and materials required for repairs.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to safety, ethics, and dependable attendance.
License Requirement

CDL Class B preferred, or the ability to obtain one within company guidelines.
