Plant Mechanic

Under general supervision, this position maintains water treatment plant systems and equipment. The employee performs skilled maintenance work including installation, repair, and replacement of plant systems and equipment.

• Install, maintain, repair, and replace water treatment plant systems and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance according to scheduled programs.
• Inspect and troubleshoot systems and equipment; remove, repair, or replace component parts.
• Complete logs and records documenting maintenance actions taken.
• Follow safety precautions such as lock‑out, tag‑out procedures.
• Operate computer systems to retrieve and enter work orders for maintenance.
• Select parts and supplies; coordinate with vendors and suppliers.
• Consult blueprints, operations and maintenance manuals, and other technical documentation to repair or adjust systems or equipment to specifications.
• Perform general maintenance on building and facilities, including cleaning and painting.
• Perform routine office functions such as copying, answering phones, and filing.

• High school diploma or GED, supplemented by vocational/technical training in mechanical maintenance or a related trade.
• Up to two years of previous experience and/or training involving water treatment plant systems maintenance or related work.

• State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “B”.
• OSHA Certification (to be obtained within one year of hire).
• Heavy Duty Certification (to be obtained within one year of hire).
• Minor Welding (to be obtained within one year of hire).
