Overview

At L&M Radiator, Inc., the things we make are helping to keep America’s lights on. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Purchasing Team at our Hibbing facility, located in Minnesota. This position reports to the Purchasing Supervisor; work shift is Monday–Friday 8a–5p, overtime when needed.

L&M Radiator, Inc. is a leading worldwide manufacturer of customized heat exchangers for Mining, Construction, Oil, Gas and heavy-duty equipment industries.

Responsibilities
  • As a member of the Purchasing Team, source, evaluate, and procure goods and services for the company by identifying suitable suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery while maintaining quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders to suppliers, ensuring accurate specifications and quantities that meet quality standards and adhere to company policies and legal regulations.
  • Qualify suppliers, inspect all parts, and follow LMP
    005 for each supplier.
  • Verify purchase requisitions for accuracy; negotiate best prices, payment terms, freight charges, and part options.
  • Track material forecasts for potential shortages and monitor market supply/demand issues.
  • Review inventory shortages and identify root causes to prevent reoccurrences; advise production on availability and expected delivery dates.
  • Follow up with suppliers on overdue orders and manage non-inventory items or subcontracted/fabricated parts.
  • Use the ERP system to organize, create, and maintain purchase orders for both plants and order parts as needed; maintain Part Maintenance Inventory List and review Discrepant Material Reports (DMR).
  • Run MRP daily and ensure items required for production are ordered; review sales orders for special buyouts and R&D parts.
  • Obtain price and delivery estimates for customer quotes; analyze inventory shortages to determine causes and improve the system.
  • Estimate future requirements for HQ items and place orders with suppliers; collaborate with corporate to identify cost-effective purchasing solutions.
  • Negotiate payment terms and discount opportunities; review historical price data for accuracy and transparency.
  • Act as liaison between corporate compliance and suppliers; seek dependable suppliers and review supplier performance using quality metrics.
  • Submit revision requests to Drafting/Engineering and participate in company meetings (New Product, Cost Committee, Cost Reduction) as required; report findings to the team.
  • Attend supplier visits annually or as requested; follow all safety guidelines; potential domestic and international travel, including weekend travel depending on the project.
  • Perform related duties as required by management or backup supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 5 years related experience in Purchasing/Manufacturing OR Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Knowledge of Epicor or similar ERP system; experience in Lean Manufacturing; experience in:
    Supply Management, Tracking Budget Expenses, Customer Service, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Manufacturing Quality, Cost Accounting.

  • Intermediate computer skills:
    Outlook, Google Drive or Microsoft Excel, Adobe/Nitro, Microsoft Teams, ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliances (e.g., EU REACH Regulations, Prop 65); detail-oriented and organized; strong written and verbal communication in English.
  • Proactive problem solver with initiative; ability to pass pre-employment physical, drug, and background tests.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit for long periods at a workstation; extensive computer use.
