MnDOT District 6 may fill up to 32 temporary and/or emergency snowplow operator positions at the Transportation Generalist or Transportation Associates classifications in various district truck stations throughout the district. These positions will be filled in the following locations:

+ Austin

+ Dresbach

+ Owatonna

+ Red Wing

+ Rochester

+ Stewartville

+ Winona

During a snow & ice season a snowplow shift is typically an A shift (12:00am-12:00pm) or B shift (12:00pm-12:00am); an employee may be asked to work more than an 8-hour shift depending on the length of the snow event.  
** Temporary
* * employees may work full-time or part-time (2-5 days, M-F, 7:00am - 3:30pm) or they work a snow & ice shift; snow & ice shifts can occur on regularly scheduled workdays and scheduled days off, including Saturday and Sunday.  
** Emergency
* * employees are intermittent fill in drivers; they work a snow & ice shift, filling in for regular operators who are not available. Hours of work may include overtime, various shifts depending on emergency situations and will include working nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour of being called.

Function:
Snow and Ice

* Maintains roadways for snow and ice control

* Prepares and inspects winter equipment

* Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup

* Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals

* Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes

* Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management

* Performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles

New employees must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetyl morphine (6-AM).  A revoked, suspended or canceled Driver's License within the last five (5) years may disqualify a candidate or three (3) serious traffic violations during any 12-month period of time will disqualify a candidate.

Minimum Qualifications:

** Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no Airbrake Restriction or equivalent from another state and obtain a valid Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of initial placement into the position and maintain it as a condition of employment. (May be required to obtain a Tanker Endorsement sooner than 6 months).*
* ** The incumbent in this position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.  Individuals not currently in the random testing pool must pass a preplacement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP), amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetyl morphine (6-AM).*
* ** The incumbent must also be registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.*
