Position: K-6 Grade Teacher at Mountain View Elementary (26-27 SY)

K-6 Grade Teacher

Catawba County Schools, Mountain View Elementary, Hickory, North Carolina.

Starting Date: Aug 10, 2026

FLSA Status: Exempt

Benefits Status: Full-time, 10 months

Salary: $4,100 - $5,595 per month (based on experience, requires bachelor’s degree)

Purpose

To plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage instructional time: prepare materials and equipment, start class quickly, maintain high student time‑on‑task.
  • Manage student behavior: establish rules and procedures for participation, conduct, and movement; monitor behavior; stop inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.
  • Instructional presentation: review prior material, introduce lesson and objectives, speak fluently, present concepts clearly, provide examples, assign tasks, ask questions, pace instruction, handle transitions, and summarize key points.
  • Instructional monitoring of student performance: set clear standards, circulate to check progress, use oral, written, and other products to gauge understanding.
  • Instructional feedback: provide timely feedback on in‑class work, out‑of‑class assignments, and incorrect responses to foster growth.
  • Facilitating instruction: develop instructional plan aligned with school and system curriculum, use diagnostic data to revise objectives, keep accurate records, match strategies to student needs, and utilize available resources.
  • Interacting within the educational environment: treat all students fairly, interact effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and community.
  • Perform non‑instructional duties: carry out assigned duties as needed, follow school policies, participate in professional development.
Additional Job Functions

Perform other related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or a related field qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Minimum Qualifications / Standards
  • Physical requirements:

    ability to use classroom tools and equipment; light work physical demands.
  • Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal, numerical, form/spatial, motor coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination, interpersonal temperament, physical communication skills.

  • Constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities.
  • Motivate students.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly environment and general clerical duties.
  • Maintain order and discipline.
  • Operate common office machines.
  • Maintain files and records.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Build effective working relationships.
