Job DescriptionREPORTS TO: Principal
PURPOSE: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Instructional Time. The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson, gets the class started quickly, gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson, and maintains a high level of student time-on-task.
- MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Student Behavior. The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern the handling of routine administrative matters, student verbal participation, talk during different types of activities, and student movement. The teacher frequently monitors behavior and stops inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.
- MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Presentation. The teacher begins lesson with a review of previous materials, introduces objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts in an understandable language, provides examples, assigns tasks, asks appropriate questions, conducts lesson briskly, makes efficient transitions, ensures clarity of assignments, and summarizes main points.
- MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance. The teacher maintains clear work standards, circulates during class, uses oral and written products to check progress, and poses questions clearly.
- MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Feedback. The teacher provides feedback to encourage growth, delivers prompt feedback, affirms correct responses, and provides sustaining feedback after incorrect responses.
- MAJOR FUNCTION: Facilitating Instruction. The teacher plans using curricular goals, diagnostic data, maintains records, aligns objectives with strategies and assessments, and uses resources.
- MAJOR FUNCTION: Interacting Within the Educational Environment. The teacher treats all students fairly and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
- MAJOR FUNCTION: Performing Non-Instructional Duties. The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties, follows laws and policies, and demonstrates professional growth.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND
EXPERIENCE:
Degree in education or a related area qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and tools, exert negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects, and meet Light Work standards.
Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people, or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey information, receive instructions, assignments, and directions.
Language Ability: Ability to read correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, and prepare materials using prescribed format.
Intelligence: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
Numerical Aptitude: Ability to use mathematical formulas, basic operations, decimals, percentages, and apply descriptive and inferential statistics.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper dimensions.
Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle a variety of items and use office equipment, with minimal eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Ability to differentiate between colors and shades.
