To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities- Management of Instructional Time: The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
- Management of Student Behavior: The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern the handling of routine administrative matters; governs student verbal participation, talk and movement during various activities; monitors behavior throughout; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently, maintaining dignity.
- Instructional Presentation: Begins lesson with a review of previous materials; introduces objectives; speaks fluently; presents concepts in understandable language; provides examples and demonstrations; assigns tasks; asks appropriate questions; conducts the lesson at a brisk pace; makes transitions efficiently; summarizes main points.
- Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Maintains clear, firm work standards and due dates; circulates during class work to check performance; uses oral, written and other work products to assess progress; poses questions clearly.
- Instructional Feedback: Provides feedback on correctness to encourage growth; gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; affirms correct oral responses; sustains feedback after incorrect responses through probing, repeating, giving clues or allowing more time.
- Facilitating Instruction: Has an instructional plan aligned with school and system‑wide goals; uses diagnostic information to develop/revise objectives; maintains accurate records; aligns objectives, strategies, assessment and student needs; uses available resources.
- Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treats all students fairly; interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents and community.

Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions- Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools; exert negligible force occasionally; consistent with Light Work.
- Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge functional characteristics of data or objects.
- Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak/signally convey information and receive instructions.
- Language Ability: Ability to read and prepare correspondence, reports, forms, instructional materials in prescribed format.
- Intelligence: Apply logical/scientific principles to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions; interpret technical instructions.
- Verbal Aptitude: Record and deliver information; explain procedures; follow oral and written instructions; communicate in technical/professional language.
- Numerical Aptitude: Use mathematical formulas, arithmetic, percentages; apply descriptive statistics.
- Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspect items for proper dimensions.
- Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
- Manual Dexterity: Handle various items; eye/hand coordination.
- Color Discrimination: Differentiate colors and shades.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Deal with people beyond instructions; adapt to stress and emergencies.
- Physical Communication: Talk and hear; communicate via telephone.

- Constantly monitor the safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities.
