High School Social Studies Teacher (322130)

Job DescriptionTo plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities- Manage instructional time:
Ensure materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson are ready at the start; start class quickly; keep students on task; maintain high student time‑on‑task. - Manage student behavior:
Establish rules for routine administration, verbal participation, movement, and behavior; monitor behavior during all activities and transitions; stop inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity. - Instructional presentation:
Review prior materials; introduce lesson and objectives; speak fluently; present concepts using understandable language; provide examples and demonstrations; assign tasks with a high success rate; ask appropriate questions; pace lesson briskly, slowing only when needed; make smooth transitions; summarize main points. - Instructional monitoring of student performance:
Set clear standards and due dates; circulate during class work to check performance; use oral, written, and other products to monitor progress; pose questions clearly and one at a time. - Instructional feedback:
Provide feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work to encourage growth; confirm correct responses; give sustaining feedback for incorrect or no response. - Facilitating instruction:
Use an instructional plan aligned with school and system‑wide goals; use diagnostic data to revise objectives; maintain accurate records; match objectives, strategies, assessment, and student needs; use available resources. - Interacting within the educational environment:
Treat all students fairly; interact effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community. - Perform non‑instructional duties:
Carry out assigned duties; adhere to laws, policies, and regulations; follow professional development plan and demonstrate growth. - Other:
Perform related work as required.
Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Qualifications- Physical requirements:
Use classroom tools and equipment; minimal force lifting/carrying; light work standing/walking. - Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal and numerical aptitude, spatial and motor coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination, interpersonal temperament, and physical communication as described.
- Constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students.
- Motivate students.
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties.
- Maintain order and discipline; operate common office machines.
- Maintain basic files and records.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Bachelor degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
